DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM

A Vision For Savannah

Join the Savannah DSA in building a just and equitable Savannah through community activism, education, and steadfast advocacy for democratic socialism.

who we are & what we are fighting for

We are Savannah DSA—organizing and mobilizing for a just, free, and democratic future in Savannah, Chatham County, and the surrounding region. As part of the largest socialist organization in the U.S., we build working-class power to challenge oppression and inequality, fight for Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ liberation, defend the rights of migrants, and empower all marginalized and oppressed communities through solidarity, political education, and grassroots action. Together, we are working to transform our city and region so that everyone can live with dignity, equity, and a real democratic voice.

housing justice working group

In a city shaped by slavery, Jim Crow, and redlining, housing injustice in Savannah is racialized by design, not by accident. We organize working class tenants to fight landlords, developers, and politicians who profit from gentrification and displacement. We are building a movement for de-commodified, public housing so that everyone has a safe, dignified home in the neighborhood they choose, not the one they are pushed into.

migrant rights working group

We organize for migrant justice against a system of racial capitalism and US empire that cages and deports Black, Brown, and Indigenous people for crossing borders to survive. Our Migrant Rights Working Group stands with immigrant and undocumented neighbors against ICE, police collaboration, and the wider carceral state, supporting local sanctuary efforts and community defense. We fight for the abolition of ICE, the demilitarization of our borders, and a world where no one is illegal.

solidarity
not
charity

mutual aid working group

We organize mutual aid as a response to racialized poverty and state neglect. Right now, that means setting up on neighborhood corners with free food and essentials, getting to know our neighbors, and making sure people have what they need to get through the week. These small, concrete acts of solidarity are how we start building a new, more just world in the shell of the old.

labor committee

Our Labor Committee organizes workers at the point of production across Savannah’s working class. In a city where exploitation hits Black, Brown, and immigrant workers hardest but touches us all, we back local picket lines, support workers in non-union shops who want to organize, and knit together a network of socialist workers across industries. We fight the boss on the shop floor and connect those struggles to a broader movement for a democratic socialist future.

Electoral committee

Our Electoral Committee is Savannah DSA’s vehicle for engaging in local politics with a clear socialist perspective. We endorse and fight for openly socialist candidates rooted in the city’s multiracial working class and accountable to our chapter, not the Democratic establishment. We treat every campaign as an organizing tool – knocking doors, talking with our neighbors, and using elections as one tool among many to build working-class power and a democratic socialist future in Savannah.

outreach & Engagement committee

Our Outreach Committee is the front door of Savannah DSA. We welcome new and prospective members, help them find a political home, and plug them into campaigns that serve our city’s marginalized and working class. Right now, that looks like tabling, one-on-one conversations, and public-facing events that introduce socialism as a practical way to fight back. If you love talking with people and helping them get involved, this is the place for you.
